Doing this allows it to load the page layout without waiting for external resources and only requires a single HTTP request to load the entire page document and its font.
  3. Optimizes the web font loading process by delaying the declaration of HTTP requests until fonts begin loading, unlike the standard method where a browser waits to download fonts, which add to the page load time.
  4. Forces animation-related CSS to be executed by the GPU instead of the browser as it is more capable of handling them efficiently. Moreover, AMP restricts the application of animations and transitions to opacity and transform. This prevents layout adjustments during page load which is a task that’s executed by the browser and one that can be detrimental to page performance.
  5. Minimizes the style recalculations that occur during page load by forcing DOM reads to happen before writes. This allows AMP pages to ensure only one style recalculation occurs per frame.
  6. Takes control of all resource downloads and prioritizes them to only load what’s needed while prefetching lazy-loaded resources. Things like ads and images are only loaded if they are above the fold or likely to be seen by the user.
  7. Uses a preconnect API to load HTTP requests. This allows pages to be loaded only when users indicate that they wish to navigate to them. Prerendering resources only when required helps reduce bandwidth and CPU usage.

There are two ways in which Magento users can implement AMP on their stores:

  1. Custom development

The best way to implement Magento 2 AMP on your store is by seeking a Magento development company to build AMP versions of your website’s pages. To be compatible with AMP, you need to manually override the standard templates inside Magento with those that don’t contain any prohibited tags or other attributes.

AMP’s HTML library comprises over a hundred components that allow you to recreate your website’s existing functionality on the AMP page. No matter if you have custom forms, integrated inventory systems, or dynamic pricing, using the AMP components, you can easily retain most of your website’s existing functionality.

  1. Third-party extensions

It’s worth noting, however, that ready-to-use extensions aren’t always capable of supporting custom themes. Most are developed using either the standard Blank or Luma themes or popular third-party Magento themes like Porto.
